This Wednesday, February 22nd marks the beginning of Lent. On this day, Christians throughout the entire world will gather in their parish churches to have ashes placed on their foreheads. This gesture will help to remind them that this special liturgical season of Lent serves as a great opportunity for us to get in touch with our spiritual lives by taking the time each day to fast in some way and to grow closer to God through prayer and good works. This is not a season to be giving up things that in the long run really do not even matter, but rather of giving into the desire we all have to grow closer to God in prayer. By our prayers and good works we express our deep appreciation to Jesus for his willingness to die on that tragic Good Friday for us all.

Bristol Retreat Weekend

This year’s Retreat theme, “Rest - Rediscover - Be Renewed,” invites us to reflect on ways we can slow down, quiet ourselves, ponder and listen. As we renew our body, mind and spirit, we commit ourselves “to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.” Now is the time to send in your $50 deposit to reserve your room. The full cost is $200 - $215, according to your means. Financial assistance is available, if needed.
For those who like to arrive early on Friday night, OLC is offering a light soup and supper between 5:30pm and 6:30pm for an additional $5.00.
If you can get away for just one day, try the “Commuter Saturday Retreat” Sat., March 3, from 8:00am - 9:00pm. The all-inclusive day is priced at $100.
